What is the Kevolution?
As promised, today is a very special day.
Due to the fact that I don't care for Xanga, I am moving to Blogspot for selfish reasons.Click here for the Kevolution
If you want, you can read my blog from there or from Facebook.
But that's not why today is special. Today is special because I'm going to give you a look at The Kevolution.

Wagner Weekend - The Ride of the Valkyries
see relatedPost Summer Report
Two very cool things happened this summer:
1. A bunch of young life people let me go on a trip with them to Colorado...for free.
2. Mom and Dad let me use their mileage on Southwest to fly to Portland, OR to see my sister.
Frontier Ranch
It's really hard to describe what happened at Frontier Ranch. If you've never been I could show you all the pictures and tell you all the stories, but it still probably wouldn't make sense. If you have been you understand in those two words what the week had in store.
For the former, I will do my best to help you understand:
Frontier Ranch
The week was a non-stop series of games, skits, songs, and life change. There was a ropes course, a 13,000 ft. mountain, a bunch of hilarious skit characters, and a handful of high school students that were remarkably nice and honest.
The honesty part was what truly blew me away. I met these guys on July 4th, and by July 7th and 8th they were sharing some of their deepest darkest secrets. All of were us in tears, and it was immensely powerful.
They say that Frontier Ranch is the 'best week of your life,' which was a big reason why I went. I was going in thinking, "OK, why is this going to be the best week of my life?" When I got their they said that it wouldn't be the best week of my life as a leader. They were wrong. I got to watch hearts change and fall in love with Jesus like I've never seen before, and now it looks like I may have an opportunity to disciple these guys, which totally pumps me up.
Portland, OR
Trip to Portland
One word to describe Portland: Austin.
There is diversity in Portland, much like Austin, there is a river that goes through the city, there is a huge environmental and liberal mindset, there are old people that are willing to dance like fools in public, there are bikes...lots and lots of bikes, and there is a river to go tubing down, filled with all the kinds of people you might see in a river just south of the River City.
That being said, I love Portland. As if I needed another reason, it is the hometown of one of my heroes: Matt Groening (creator of the Simpsons), so there were all kinds of neat things to see and do.
Nearly the first place I walked into was a comic book store the size of Wal-Mart. They had EVERYTHING. Stuff that I had been looking for for years. Stuff that I didn't even know existed (a Justice League trade written by Meltzer?).
One street alone had about 3 record stores. I think there may be one in Houston.
We got to eat lots of good food, see lots of cool things, and have lots of good conversations. It felt like college again, and I loved it. Some have given me a hard time about that, but that's fine.

Hullo Blog World!
Long time no see. My life has been a blur of contests, rehearsals, concerts, long days, and spring trips to Splashtown. With all that I have not made time to post here, but I have not forgotten about you, and though my posts have been few, the Kevolution still rages on in the fight against laziness, apathy, and other such atrocities.
Let me give you small piece of what I've been up to:
Since I am in the business of teaching music to pre-teens, I am becoming skilled (arguably) at taking their favorite songs and turning them into music they can play, also called arranging. Here is my latest endeavor:
It is not finished (merely v. 1.0), but a fair attempt at placing this beautiful song to score. I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to provide feedback (positive and/or negative).
In my business I have also not made time to read up on you the people of Kevolutionaria. People are out there getting married and making babies, and I have been oblivious to most of it.
What have other Kevolutionaries been up to these past months?

IN YOUR SENIOR YEAR DID YOU...
1. Did you date someone from your school? No
2. Did you marry someone from your high school? No
3. Did you car pool to school? Drove myself that year.
4. What kind of car did you have? 1997 Ford F-150. I loved that truck.
5. What kind of car do you have now. 2008 Honda Civic. I love that car, but for different reasons.
6. Its Friday night...where are you now? Depends. Out with friends or at home reading/relaxing.
7. It is Friday night...where were you then? Out with friends causing chaos to the residents of Carrollton, Tx.
8. What kind of job did you have in high school? Oshman's Sporting Goods. Sold shoes and skates.
9. What kind of job do you do now? Middle School Band Director.
10. Were you a party animal? Not really. I could have a good time, but my idea of a good time wasn't getting wasted and breaking commandments.
11. Were you considered a flirt? I seriously doubt that.
12. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir? Obviously (see #9) I was a band nerd. I played trombone in the full orchestra, but my life was marching band, football games, and hanging out with an oboe player, drummers, and brass players.
13. Were you a nerd? Yeah. Probably wouldn't have admitted it then. Most of my friends were in band. I enjoyed school for the most part. I took freaking BC Calculus and got a 4 on the ap test (which gave me 6 hours of A's at UT!)
14. Did you get suspended or expelled? No. Getting into that kind of trouble was never an option in my head.
15. Can you sing the fight song? Nope. But I could probably sing most of the alma mater. We sang it every week on the bus back from football games.
I could probably sing it in the right key, too.
16. Who was/were your favorite teacher(s)? Mr. Centera had a huge impact on me as a person. Mr. Clemmer had a huge impact on me as a musician and teacher. Mr. Pritchett and my spanish teacher helped me find my calling. Mr. Parks taught me how to dance.
17. Where did you sit during Lunch? Wendy's. Sat in my car most days listening to Radiohead, Matt Catingub, Stan Kenton, or Five Iron Frenzy. Most of my friends didn't have my lunch.
18. What was your school's full name? Newman Smith High School
19. When did you graduate? 2002
20. What was your school mascot? Trojans (yes, the Trojans)
21. If you could go back and do it again, would you? Yeah, it has been one of my favorite years of life so far.
22. Did you have fun at Prom? Yes! I went on a double date of sorts with my best friend. It was very comfortable and fun. No pressure to do anything or say anything. I wish every date could be like that.
23. Do you still talk to the person you went to Prom with? When I see them, which is about once or twice a year.
24. Are you planning on going to your next reunion? Absolutely. Probably for the same reasons that most people avoid theirs. I'm excited about going back and seeing all the people that probably made fun of me. My identity has changed a lot since then. Teaching middle school has forced me to be really comfortable with who I am.
25. Do you still talk to people from school? Yeah. A lot of them seem to run in the same circles still, and I'm good friends with a few of the people from those circles, so I end up seeing more than I plan to, but that's not a bad thing.
26. School Colors? Green and gold. When I started going to school there the walls were puke green and brown. Now they're Hospital white and green.
27. What celebrities came from your high school? None that I can think of. Vanilla Ice went to school down the street. Barack Obama visited my school a couple years ago. That's about it.
28. What is your fondest memory of your senior year? The friendships I made because of band. Without it I probably would have had little to no social life.
